On June 17, 2026, the Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Handicrafts, Kalili Konaté, visited the construction site of the Adzopé Special Economic Zone (SEZ), located approximately 100 kilometers from Abidjan. The investment for this project amounts to 225 billion CFA francs (around 397 million USD), and it is expected to create approximately 51,000 direct and indirect jobs across a 432-hectare area north of Abidjan. It was announced that Côte d’Ivoire plans to develop 14 special economic zones nationwide, supported by industrial zones across all 31 regions of the country, with the goal of accelerating local value addition. It is worth noting that the Adzopé SEZ is explicitly linked to the industrial pillar of the 2026–2030 National Development Plan, which prioritizes structural transformation. The initial phases, including energy provision and infrastructure development on the site, followed by the marketing of industrial plots, will serve as the first practical test of this strategic approach.
